Edmonton's local plumbing company

Edmonton Plumbing is a locally owned plumbing company serving homeowners, landlords and businesses across Edmonton and the Capital Region. We fix leaks, clear drains, replace hot water tanks, repipe Poly-B homes, install backwater valves and sump pumps, and handle gas lines, all with the same simple approach.

Most people call us after a bad experience: a plumber who never showed up, quoted by the hour and kept the clock running, or left a mess in the basement. So we run things differently. You get a two-hour arrival window, a call before we arrive, a flat price you approve before any work starts, and a written warranty on the invoice.

Whether it's a burst pipe in Castle Downs at 2 a.m., a hot water tank that quit before work, or a sewer line full of roots under a 1950s bungalow in Highlands, you deal with a licensed plumber who tells you straight what's wrong and what it costs to fix.

Plumbing problems we fix in Edmonton homes every week

Edmonton's climate, water and housing stock create a predictable set of plumbing problems. We know them well.

Poly-B water lines

Homes built from the late 1970s to the late 1990s across Mill Woods, Castle Downs, Riverbend and Clareview often still have grey Poly-B pipe, which can split at the fittings without warning.

Frozen and burst pipes

At −30 °C, pipes in exterior walls, garages and crawlspaces freeze fast. Burst lines are our most common January call.

Sewer backups

Heavy summer storms can push the city sewer back into basements. A backwater valve is the fix, and EPCOR may pay up to $800 of it.

Tree roots in old sewer lines

Mature neighbourhoods like Highlands, Westmount, Bonnie Doon and Ritchie have clay and cast-iron sewer lines that roots love.

Hard water

Edmonton's tap water is around 9–11 grains per gallon. Scale shortens hot water tank life and clogs tankless heaters and fixtures.

Sump pumps in new areas

Newer communities like Windermere, Ellerslie, Rosenthal and Griesbach rely on sump pumps that work hard every spring melt.

How a service call works

  1. Call or book online

A real person answers, asks a few questions and gives you a two-hour arrival window. Emergencies go to the front of the line, 24/7.

  2. Diagnose & price upfront

The plumber finds the cause, explains your options and gives a flat price. Nothing starts until you approve it.

  3. Fix it right

Licensed work to the Alberta and National Plumbing Codes. We pull City permits and book inspections when they're required.

  4. Clean up & warranty

Shoe covers on, mess cleaned up, old parts hauled away, and a written workmanship warranty on the invoice.

Built for Edmonton winters

Our city's plumbing works harder than most. Incoming water drops to near-freezing in winter, which makes water heaters work longer and makes tankless sizing critical. Exterior walls, garages and hose bibs freeze. And spring melt and summer cloudbursts load up sump pumps and city sewers at the same time.

We size equipment for those conditions, insulate and reroute pipes that are at risk, fit frost-free hose bibs, and recommend battery-backup sump pumps and backwater valves where they actually make sense. Read our guide to preventing frozen pipes.

Edmonton plumbing: common questions

How much does a plumber cost in Edmonton?

Most Edmonton plumbers charge $100 to $180 an hour, or a service-call fee plus a flat price per job. Common jobs typically run: drain cleaning $150–$600, hot water tank replacement $1,800–$4,500, toilet repair $150–$400 and backwater valve installation $1,500–$3,500. We quote a flat price before starting. See our full Edmonton plumbing price guide.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency plumbing in Edmonton?

Yes. Our phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. For burst pipes, sewer backups, flooding or a gas smell near a water heater, call (780) 996-7950. If gas is involved, leave the house first and call ATCO's emergency line.

Are your plumbers licensed in Alberta?

Yes. Our work is done or directly supervised by Alberta-certified journeyperson plumbers, and gas work by certified gasfitters. Apprentices always work under a journeyperson. We carry liability insurance and WCB Alberta coverage and can show proof on request.

Do I need a permit for plumbing work in Edmonton?

Many jobs do. The City of Edmonton requires plumbing and gas permits for things like replacing a gas water heater, installing a backwater valve, adding or moving fixtures, and new gas lines. Simple repairs such as clearing a drain or replacing a faucet usually don't. We pull the permit and book the inspection for you when one is needed.

Do you charge for a quote?

For larger planned projects such as Poly-B replacement, tankless conversions and backwater valves, quotes are free. For repairs, a service-call fee covers the trip and diagnosis; you then get a flat price for the fix before any work starts.

How fast can you get here?

For emergencies, we aim to have a plumber on the way right after your call. For regular repairs, same-day or next-day appointments are usually available across Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park, with a two-hour arrival window and a call before we head over.

Should I replace my Poly-B plumbing?

If your home was built between about 1978 and 1997, check for grey plastic water lines stamped "PB2110". Poly-B can fail suddenly, and many Alberta insurers now limit coverage or charge more for homes that still have it. Replacing it with PEX takes 1–3 days in most homes. See Poly-B replacement.

Can you help with the EPCOR backwater valve subsidy?

Yes. EPCOR offers up to $800 toward a backwater valve for eligible Edmonton homes. We install the valve, get the City permit and green inspection sticker, and give you an invoice with everything EPCOR asks for. Read our subsidy guide.

Do you do commercial plumbing?

Yes. We work for restaurants, offices, retail stores, clinics and property managers, including backflow testing, grease interceptors, tenant service calls and after-hours work. See commercial plumbing.

What areas do you serve?

All of Edmonton plus St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Leduc, Beaumont, Fort Saskatchewan, Devon, Morinville, Acheson and Nisku. See service areas.
